Sled hockey came to Buffalo in the mid-1990s, and we were one of the first teams in the United States. We became a non-profit in 2001. Our non-profit name WNY Physically Challenged Youth Sports, Inc, had 8 players, and we were called the Niagara Challengers. In 2000 we became the Buffalo Freeze, and in 2006 we formed an affiliation with the Buffalo Sabres and became know as Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey Team. We have had 6 players play in the Paralympics, Buffalo had a member on Team USA for the 2002 (1), 2006 (4), 2010 (4), and 2014 (2) games. We have won 5 Adult National Championships ('06,'07,'08,'10, and '11), 1 Adult C National Championship (2015), and 2 Youth National Championships (2006, 2007) since the Nationals have started in 2005.

Also our players have represented the United States at the Paralympic Games and World Championships for Men and Women Sled National Teams.

We currently have 4 teams (1 youth, 3 adult), and play in the Onatrio Sledge Hockey Association (OSHA). We also travel to several tournaments a year around North America.
